Tree service in Saraland, Satsuma and Creola, up Highway 43
North of the city along Highway 43, the river towns have big pecans and live oaks on the old lots, pines on the new ones, and the Mobile River's floodplain on one side. We cover all three.
Saraland, Satsuma and Creola run up Highway 43 north of Mobile between the interstate and the Mobile River, with Chickasaw and Prichard just south and the Chastang Landfill at the top of the road in Mount Vernon. Saraland is the biggest of the three and has been growing steadily, with new subdivisions off Celeste Road and Shelton Beach Road built in the pine woods, while the older streets in Satsuma and Creola have the pecans, water oaks and live oaks that have been there since the towns were railroad stops. The river side is low and wet, and the pines on that side go over in a hurricane.
The work splits the same way. On the new streets it's pine removal and hurricane prep; on the old ones it's pecan and live oak pruning, deadwood and clearance over the roof, and the occasional hollow water oak that has to come down before it drops a limb on a car. After a storm the three towns are far enough from the bay to miss the surge but not the wind, and the curb piles here fall under each city's own rules rather than Mobile's. Debris from Saraland and Satsuma usually goes to Chastang, which takes cards only, or to EcoSouth in Axis. None of the three towns requires a permit for a tree on a residential lot.

Questions from Saraland homeowners
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Saraland?
Not for a tree on a residential lot. Saraland, Satsuma and Creola each have their own city halls, and none requires a tree permit for private residential trees.
My pecan drops big limbs every summer. Is it safe?
Pecans are known for dropping limbs with no warning, especially long horizontal ones loaded with nuts in August. Deadwood removal and reduction cuts on the long limbs over the roof take most of the risk out; a hollow pecan over the house is a removal.
Where does the debris go?
We haul it. From Saraland and Satsuma that's usually Chastang Landfill on Highway 43 in Mount Vernon (Monday to Friday, 7 to 4, credit cards only) or EcoSouth in Axis.
How much does a pine removal cost in Saraland?
A 40- to 70-foot pine near the house $800 to $2,000; over 70 feet or over the roof $1,800 to $4,500; dead or beetle-killed 20 to 40 percent more.
