Emergency tree service

A tree on the house at 2 a.m.? We answer.

Mobile's worst storms come ashore in the dark. Frederic, Ivan and Sally all did. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, trees on structures are dispatched first, and the paperwork happens after the weight is off the roof.

Tree crew cutting a loblolly pine that fell across a house roof after a hurricane on the Alabama Gulf Coast

Hurricane Ivan came ashore just west of Gulf Shores at 1:50 a.m. on September 16, 2004. Sally arrived before sunrise on the same date 16 years later and crawled across Baldwin County at 3 mph, gusting to 81 mph at Mobile Regional Airport and 97 at Dauphin Island. By 10 p.m. that night the City had counted more than 100 trees down and more than 160,000 homes in the county were without power. That is the pattern: the trees fall at night, in the rain, with the power out. A tree service that only answers during office hours is no use to a family with a pine through the ceiling.

So we answer around the clock, every day of the year. When you call, we ask three things: is anyone hurt or trapped, is the tree on a structure, and is a power line involved. People first, structures second, driveways and yards after that. If a line is down or tangled in the tree, Alabama Power has to make it safe before anyone touches it; the utility's rule is that only line-clearance-qualified crews work within 10 feet of an energized line, and a downed line is treated as live until the company says otherwise. Everything else we can start on as soon as the wind drops enough to work safely, usually by first light.

The emergency job is to make the house safe and dry: cut the tree off the roof in sections so nothing else comes through, get the load off a crushed carport before it folds, clear the driveway so you can get out, and tarp what we can reach. The full cleanup, the stump and the hangers in the other trees come after, on a written price. Photograph everything before we cut. Your insurer will want the pictures, and in Mobile and Baldwin counties nearly half the Hurricane Sally claims involved a fallen tree, so the adjusters know the drill.

What's included

Answered 24/7, dispatched by priority

Trapped or injured people first, trees on structures second, blocked driveways and streets after that.

Make-safe first

The tree is cut off the house in sections so nothing else comes through, and the load is taken off crushed carports and porches before they fold.

Power lines respected

If a line is down or tangled in the tree, we call Alabama Power and wait for the all-clear. Nobody climbs a tree that's on a line.

Tarping while we're there

What we can reach from the bucket gets covered. Mobile County residents who need a tarp after a storm can also call 211.

Photos for the claim

Before, during and after, time-stamped, sent to you the same day.

Full cleanup priced in writing

Once the house is safe, the rest (hangers, stump, haul-off) is itemized on a written price, with no pressure to do it that night.

Questions we get about emergency tree service

What should I do before you arrive?

Get everyone out of the rooms under the tree, and out of the house if the roof is open or the structure moved. Shut off the main breaker if water is coming in near wiring. Don't go on the roof and don't let anyone start cutting a tree that is loaded on a structure or touching a line. Take photos from a safe distance.

Will insurance cover this?

Usually. Homeowners policies generally cover damage to the house from a fallen tree and the cost of removing the tree from the structure, within limits. Removing a tree that fell in the yard without hitting anything is often not covered. We document everything and itemize the invoice so the adjuster can see what was done.

How fast can you get here during a hurricane?

As soon as it is safe to work. In sustained hurricane-force wind, no one works in a bucket or a tree. The moment the wind drops, crews roll on the priority list. Mobile and Baldwin were under a Hurricane Warning for Isaias with gusts to 75 forecast; those are the nights we plan for.

The tree is on the power line. Who do I call?

Alabama Power first, then us. Treat any downed line as energized. The utility clears the line and makes it safe; we take the tree off the house. If a tree is blocking a city street after hours, the City says to call Mobile Police at 251-208-7211.

Do you charge more at night?

Yes, emergency and storm work costs more than scheduled work because of the hour, the conditions and the risk. We tell you the call-out range on the phone before anyone rolls, and the full cleanup is priced in writing afterward, when you can think straight.

What if a neighbor's tree fell on my house?

Call us the same way. In general, your own insurance handles the damage to your house regardless of whose tree it was, unless the neighbor knew the tree was dead or dangerous and ignored it. Keep the photos; they matter if that question comes up.
